Normal tension glaucoma is more common in patients with obstructive sleep apnoea, and also with nocturnal systemic hypotension, migraine, Raynaud phenomenon, previous haemodynamic crisis and antiphospholipid antibodies - the vasospastic and perfusion-related associations. Its field defects are characteristically dense, focal and PARACENTRAL rather than diffuse and peripheral, the Collaborative Normal-Tension Glaucoma Study established a 30% (not 20%) reduction as the target, and the disease usually progresses slowly, with disc haemorrhages as a sign of activity.
