For SELECTIVE reinnervation of the ADDUCTORS the preferred donor is the NERVE TO THYROHYOID, a branch of the ansa/hypoglossal descendens whose activity is synchronous with phonation and swallowing, so it restores adduction without synkinesis; the phrenic nerve - which fires with inspiration - is used for the ABDUCTOR (posterior cricoarytenoid), the aim of selective reinnervation being to give each muscle group a physiologically appropriate input. The nerves to omohyoid and sternothyroid are not the standard donors for adductor reinnervation.
