LORICRIN constitutes MORE THAN 80% of the protein of the CORNIFIED CELL ENVELOPE, cross-linked by transglutaminases with involucrin, small proline-rich proteins and filaggrin. Its mutations cause Vohwinkel syndrome with ichthyosis and progressive symmetric erythrokeratoderma (pachyonychia congenita being a keratin disorder), it is an epidermal rather than dermal protein, and loricrin-like proteins are present in other keratinising epithelia.
