Chalcosis, from a retained copper-containing intraocular foreign body, produces the SUNFLOWER cataract - a golden-brown petal-shaped deposit of copper in the anterior lens capsule, together with a Kayser-Fleischer-like corneal ring, greenish iris discolouration and retinal degeneration. (The same sunflower cataract is seen in Wilson disease.) Siderosis from an iron foreign body instead gives iron deposition with rusty staining, pupillary mydriasis and retinopathy.
