A DISCONTINUOUS (MULTIFOCAL) basal cell carcinoma is NOT a good indication for Mohs surgery, because the technique depends on contiguous growth for margin tracing, so skip lesions may be missed. The accepted indications include tumours on the NAIL UNIT and other anatomically critical sites, high-risk tumours in IMMUNOSUPPRESSED patients, tumours in PREVIOUSLY IRRADIATED skin, recurrent tumours, aggressive histological subtypes, perineural invasion and large or ill-defined lesions.
